Celebrating moments that shape my progress and growth

2006

It began with a combination of two things: (1) photos printed from arcade coin-operated photo booths, and (2) Friendster profile backgrounds. I was intrigued by the array of borders and decorations you can choose from. Through a relative, I found Adobe Photoshop and explored the application for the first time.

2009

At the college I studied in, the Head of Design and Technology saw my potential in graphic design. This was when I embarked my journey to find out what makes design great and why it matters.

2011

While studying at university, I was still uncertain if pursuing graphic design was the right field for me. On the one hand, I was recommended by a handful of entrepreneurs to take up freelance jobs and the responses from clients were always positive. I then made a decision: The field of graphic design stood out to be the rational choice of profession. So, I began my professional career as a part-time graphic designer.

2013

Conservation International Asia-Pacific in Singapore accepted me as a Communications and Design intern for a semester. I gained valuable experience working outside of my comfort zone, which gave me much exposure to the working culture in the professional workplace and non-governmental sector. I also started writing poetry and published a few pieces online.

2014

I became a co-founder of a digital marketing start-up and agency. It was a humbling experience, and I am grateful to have run a company alongside three passionate individuals for two and a half years. From small beginnings, we were able to work with international clients such as The Body Shop and Pepper Lunch, and regional brands, such as Paddington House of Pancakes and Guardian Pharmacy.

2015

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, major in Art and Creative Technology, with a minor in Professional Communication & Media. 🎓

2016

One of my mentors saw potential in me to pursue User Experience Design. I travelled to the other side of the world to expand my knowledge in this field. 🌍 In the program, I fully immersed myself in user-centric design approaches and methodologies: user-behaviour research, information architecture (IA), usability testing, prototyping, web and mobile user-interface (UI) design. I became familiar in relevant industry software, such as Sketch and InVision. I was given the opportunity to work in teams with real-life clients. It was during this course, I found my calling. ✨

2017

After leaving my co-owned startup, I was approached to be a creative lead of a small company. I helped build the brand and customer base of one of the most popular fast-food establishments in the country. In a year, they had an online presence and following of over 10,000 followers. They opened a second branch due to high-demand and popularity. 📈

2018

At a local creative agency, I was approached and hired as a Senior Designer, leading and mentoring a group of junior designers. In less than a year, I was transferred to the online/digital department as a UX+UI specialist within the same agency. In this department, I had the opportunity of working alongside web and app developers. My experience in this company has taught me what working in a demanding and competitive environment is truly like.

2020-2021

I recovered from a repetitive strain injury (RSI). Thankfully, I survived the global pandemic. Till this day, I’ve been free from the coronavirus/COVID-19 (i.e. “superdodger” and/or “Novid”). 🦠

2022

Early in the year, I found my voice and performed in virtual platforms. The highest count of attendees for AltspaceVR was 134 people. I was featured in Clubhouse’s official Sunday Music room on Dec 5th, with over 400 live attendees (and a total count of 3.5k attendees) worldwide. I launched my own digital art collection, ‘Looks (外型),’ that celebrates diversity. I was the senior board member of an American company specialising in bridging wellness and extended-reality (XR). At the end of the year, I moved to North America.

2023

I opened up a few e-stores on Gumroad (digital downloads), and TeePublic (apparel and merchandise). For my overall holistic enrichment, one of my goals for this year is to read more books. Here are a few:
